VERTICAL HOLD

My 1000-in-1 arcade machine !

Thanks to the new emulators, I decided
to be the first kid on my block to have
my own MAME machine. This was an ongoing
project, with about 2 weeks initially spent
on the thing. It currently plays 1000
various classic games (Pac Man, Frogger,
Centipede, Moon Cresta, etc) specifically
made for vertical monitors.

While I've seen many of these machines,
I've never seen one in a dedicated vertical cabinet.
It's powered by a noname motherboard and a
Pentium 233 CPU overclocked at 250mhz.

How much did it cost ?

I've been asked this a few times, so
here's a rough estimate ...

Motherboard/CPU ... $60 (Yahoo! Auction - NEW)
RAM - 24 Megs ... $00 (Had it lying around)
Hard Drive 800 Meg ... $29 (Auction)
Keyboard ... $15 (Blew up the first one)
Video Card ... $15 (Fleabay)
Sound Card ... $00 (Had one lying around)
Cabinet w/monitor ... $35 (Arcade auctions are
awesome when they run late !)
Plexiglass ... $20

Anything else used was found in my
various part boxes and junk machines.

While it took an initial 2 weeks to
build, I've been tweaking it for months.
I initially only intended for a few dozen
classics (the basics, Pac Man, Invaders, etc)
but just kept adding on until I hit over
1000 vertical games.

I slightly modified and re-compiled MAME
to bypass the info screens when the games
start. It's a true work of art !
(My machine AND MAME - Thanks MAME team !!!)

Sadly, I sold the MAME machine to a friend
not too long ago ...

The GUTS that make it work !

(This is actually from the newer 3000-in-1
MAME machine which I built for my brother.
